"Where did it all go?"

It's a common refrain at my house. Having recently returned to work after maternity leave, I'm always looking for more time...time with my baby, time to finish household chores, time to return phone calls. And at day's end I wonder if the allocation of my time really reflects what's important.

Whether it's time or money, many of us wrestle with aligning our resources with our priorities. The wise stewardship of these treasures challenges us in our call to "Go and do likewise." In my home, supporting our congregation and ELCA World Hunger is a priority, but so are childcare and groceries. In this global community, we are intricately connected to people living in poverty, and I struggle with knowing that my lifestyle and stewardship decisions impact my neighbors around the world.

Many people, including my husband and me, reflect our commitment to ELCA World Hunger through automatic monthly gifts. These gifts are "first fruits" and are given before lower priorities are addressed within our monthly spending. It's a reminder that my resources are not really mine but gifts from God intended to make a difference in the world. To learn about automatic monthly giving to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, visit www.elca.org/hunger/howtogive or call 800.638.3522, ext. 2764.

Many thanks for the stewardship of your gifts from God through your support of ELCA World Hunger. Together, our gifts bring hope for those who struggle to survive.

From Lifelines, winter 2007-2008.
