150th Anniversary
The St. Paul’s 150th Anniversary Committee would like to invite you to our Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 8 (Worship at 5:30 p.m.) & 9 (Worship at 9 or 11 am). On Sunday, Jan. 9, please join us for brunch in the Parish Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. Donations will be accepted as a fundraiser for our high school youth’s trip. The brunch menu will include egg sausage strata, hash browns, fresh fruit, mini cinnamon rolls, homemade bread sticks and special desserts by St. Paul’s Members. I get to do the Children’s Service—so I hope you can make it! Please visit our 150th webpage at www.stpauswaverly.org/150th-anniversary to learn about the great events planned throughout 2022.
We also have 150th Anniversary St. Paul’s Church & School yard signs for sale for $10.00. We hope to see many of these signs in front of the houses of our St. Paul’s School & Church families.
School Fund
As we begin to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our school, we are reminded of all the great things happening at St. Paul’s. This year’s end of the year challenge to our staff, the members of the church, and the parents and relatives of our children was to donate $150 to our school operating expenses or our long-standing scholarship fund. Please share this donation card with friends and relatives that are interested in supporting your child’s school. Our School Fund brochure outlines all the ways that you can support our school financially well with your daily spending habits.
School Picture
On Jan. 13, we will take a K-6th grade school picture after the worship service. We would like all students to wear green.
Weather Related Announcements
The weather outside is frightful…………brrrrrr! Here is a copy of our Playground Expectations that outline our recess clothing requirements with the temperature/weather conditions. Please be sure your child has the appropriate clothing and that all pieces of clothing/boots are clearly marked with your child’s name or initials.
St. Paul’s follows W-SR Public Schools late starts and cancellations. As soon as we are notified, we will send out the announcements through JMC. You can also sign up to get a direct W-SR notification at wsr.k12.ia.us.
Social Emotional Learning Lesson
This month’s social emotional competency is on ‘Responsible Decision Making’ which refers to considering the well-being of self and others; recognizing one’s responsibility to behave ethically; basing decisions on safety, social, and ethical considerations; evaluating realistic consequences of various actions; and making constructive, safe choices for self, relationships, and school. There are four (4) Learning Targets within this competency: Identifying Problems, Analyzing Situations and Solving Problems, Evaluating and Reflecting, and Ethical Responsibility.
Tuesday, Jan. 11 is our next social emotional learning lesson with Kate and Shelby. In Tuesday’s 4-6th grade lesson Shelby will be doing a fun kids “Would You Rather?” game with them. They will focus on how each child may “rather” do something different but we can evaluate & reflect on our decisions & choices, positive & negative consequences of those choices, etc. Kate will read the story “What Do You Do With A Problem” and discuss the theme of seeing your problem as an opportunity to make a decision.
