Social Emotional Learning
Our next social emotional learning lesson will be next Tuesday, Dec. 7. Both Kate and Shelby will continue the work under the Social Emotional Competency of Relationships. Kate will be working with the Kindergarten-3rd grade on relationship skill concepts like understanding body language, facial expressions and paying attention. They will be doing charades (using feelings and thoughts). Kate will do this in a “team” format which will also require teamwork and self control.

In 4th-6th Grade next Tuesday, Shelby will continue working on relationship building with the kids. Specifically working on concepts about how to get to know someone and giving/receiving compliments.

John 15:12: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”

Shepherd on the Search
In December, the students are discovering the joy of finding Christ in Christmas. Kind of like the “Elf on the Shelf,” we have “Shepherd on the Search.” In his search for baby Jesus, Shepherd Simone explores a new location in the school or church and the students are having a great time searching for him. Some of the classes are using the Shepherd on the Search daily devotions in their classrooms. Each day, one of the 5th graders hides Simone in a special place for all of us to find and they give us a clue during the daily announcements. Here is a link to the website where you can learn more about the Shepherd on the Search, His Daily ADVENTures are fun ways to engage our students as they countdown to Christmas and search for baby Jesus!

Second Trimester Offering
Our Second Trimester Offering will be going to Lutheran Services of Iowa for their Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) mission. LSI is one of nine official national resettlement organizations that work with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement to bring refugees to the U.S. LSI provides direct resettlement of refugees arriving in Des Moines, Sioux City and other areas of the state as needed. LSI assists with the immediate needs of the individual or family. LSI’s array of post-resettlement programs is available to connect newcomers with ongoing services, including English language classes, small business development, career connections, financial literacy education, mental health and family wellness, citizenship classes and more. We will be learning more about their programming in future Worship Services. To learn more, visit
