Pastor Arthur
It is with deep sadness to have announced Pastor Arthur’s resignation last week. He has received a call up in Northern Wisconsin where he and Jennifer have dreamed of retiring to some day. Pastor has spent the past 5 years at St. Paul’s and he is the reason that there is such a strong connection between the church and school and that we are in such sound financial shape, and we thank him for his pastoral work in the school. We want to assure you all that as we seek an interim and permanent pastor we will search for the right candidate to continue the bonding between church and school. During this transition we will continue to build our youth ministry by engaging Deb Bachman, director Faith Formation at St. Paul’s, in the school and in worship. Be sure to let her know that we appreciate her presence in Pastor’s absence.
16th Annual Fun Walk
The School Fund Committee is hosting our 16th Annual Fun Walk on Wednesday, Oct. 6, which is scheduled on the same day as Iowa’s Healthiest 11th Annual State Walk. In conjunction with the two events we would like to invite our school and church families to walk with our students. We will be walking around the church/school block between 10:30-11:30 a.m. and you can join us anytime. The students have forms to collect contributions or simply visit www.stpaulswaverly.org/school/school-fund/ to contribute online. Last year, we were able to raise over $5000 and are hoping to exceed that amount this year. Thanks to the members of the congregation and our school families for their generosity. Your gift to the School Fund helps provides tuition assistance, technology, textbooks, and all those things needed for our children’s education.
Grandparents’ Day
Friday, Oct. 8 is Grandparents’ Day at St. Paul’s School. This year the Grandparents’ Day service will be a Facebook Live Event. Grandparents and grandchildren may be seated in the Sanctuary or to allow for more distancing they may participate in the service in Room 121, the multi-purpose room. Please meet with your grandchildren at 12:45 p.m. in the Parish Hall and then take them to Room 121 or to the Sanctuary for our 1 p.m. worship service. Please enter the building through the west door under the church canopy or the main entrance of the school. Following worship, the students will be giving school tours, taking their Grandparent for a cookie break and visiting the Book Fair. Children may go home with grandparents following the event, but we do ask ALL Grandparents to inform the teacher before they leave the building. We also highly recommend masking for outside visitors, especially for the church service. Just a reminder that there will be no Worship on Thursday, Oct. 7.
