150th Anniversary: 1872-2022

Living God's Love - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School is celebrating 150 years of ministry in Waverly, Iowa.  The Anniversary Committee has planned many activities and events for the year.

Each month we will welcome former pastors to preach, and these weekends will include a Saturday evening meal for all who would like to attend.

Please watch this page as details are updated and shared. This will be a special year of celebration. We are excited and encouraged and eagerly look forward to the next 150 years at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School.

150th Mission Fund

The 150th Anniversary Committee is pleased to announce the 150th Anniversary Mission Fund! St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School has been a mission-driven congregation for its entire 150 years. Our parish revels in serving our communities both near and far and past and present.

To celebrate 150 years of ministry, our congregation has committed further giving through mission dollars and above and beyond giving to three of our community partners: Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI); ELCA Global Mission; and St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

Support of these missions will be accepted throughout 2022. These ministries and our partnerships with each represent historical references of St. Paul’s past, St. Paul’s present and St. Paul’s future — Living God’s Love: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

LSI responds to the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate service. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School has supported the Lutheran Children’s Home (now Bremwood) with financial gifts and many people in the Waverly Community have family ties to children who lived at the home.

ELCA Global Mission walks with more than 80 companion churches in other countries to participate in God’s reconciling mission through proclamation and service. Your gifts build up Christ’s church by sending missionaries and volunteers, training leaders, planting new churches and growing existing ones. St. Paul’s has faithfully supported ELCA Global Mission many times in the past.

St. Paul’s Lutheran School is a staple of this Christian community. These dollars will be used to modernize the current facility and update the HVAC system. As our public schools begin to break ground on new facilities, it is important to keep St. Paul’s up-to-date to ensure our Christian education can continue for many generations to come.

We will come together to celebrate as one community at our 150th Anniversary Celebration Dinner on Saturday, April 30, at the Waverly Area Veterans Post. At the celebration, we will further highlight these important ministries which have served God’s
children for decades and will continue to bless the people of God for decades to come. Our goal for the year for these 3 missions is $15,000, divided evenly, $100 for each of our 150 years. Our Celebration Dinner will be a fundraiser for these 3 missions. Instead of a charge for the meal, we ask for donations to the 150th Mission Fund.

We will have other opportunities later in our celebration year to learn more about these important missions and to help us reach our $15,000 goal.
